Tata Motors to expand service network

In a bid to revive sales, Tata Motors on Tuesday announced an expansion of its dealership and service network by 200 each by March 2013.

The company will have 1,200 sales points and 1,000 service centres by the end of the current fiscal.

The company also launched the latest version of its entry-level sedan Indigo Manza with additional features, while retaining the price tag. The petrol version of the Manza Club Class starts at R5.70 lakh while diesel version will cost R6.49 lakh.

Karl Slym, who took over as the managing director of Tata Motors a few weeks back, wants his company to improve its customer focus. “Perhaps it is more difficult to change the perception than reality,” said Slym. “Our short-term focus is to bring in new products and improve services. Beyond that, we want to bring in new customer experience.”

Speaking on a timeline on improving sales, Slym said: “I can’t afford to wait. It is about harnessing the capabilities we already have.”

Slym, who was earlier the India chief of General Motors, has got a fresh team for the passenger car division of Tata Motors. Former head of Samsung India Ranjit Yadav took over as president passenger car business while Neeraj Garg who was board member with Volkswagen became vice-president in charge of marketing.

TheIndigo Manza diesel will offer a mileage of 21.02 km per litre while the petrol version will offer 13.7 km per litre.
