At the Paris Motorcycle Show, French scooter manufacturer MBK and its Japanese parent company Yamaha announced two new three-wheeled scooters slated to launch next summer. Priced at less than €4,000 ($5,430), the new models will be in direct competition with Piaggio's MP3.

The Yamaha Tricity will be sold worldwide, while its European cousin the MBK Tryptik will be available only in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The new three-wheeled scooters stand out for being particularly lightweight, at less than 150kg, and affordable, with prices starting at €4,000 ($5,430).
For Yamaha, the Tricity is the first scooter in a new line of affordable and compact models scheduled to debut next year. Powered by a 125cm3 four-stroke engine, the Tricity has a sleek design and easy handling meant to appeal to new riders.
Also at the Paris Motorcycle Show, Peugeot is displaying its own range of three-wheeled scooters, Métropolis. These vehicles are currently available in France, with prices starting at €8,890.
