India’s second largest carmaker, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, on Monday rejigged prices of its entry-level small car Eon in a bid to create more demand.

The Korean auto giant has introduced three new variants Dlite+, Era+ and Magna+, adding features and effectively bringing the price down by Rs 5,000-20,000 compared to existing variants.

The Dlite+ for example offers power steering and air conditioning for Rs 2.98 lakh, compared with Rs 3.12 lakh for the previous variant, Era.

“The idea behind the new variants is to offer extra value to our customers,” said HW Park, managing director and CEO, HMIL.

Billed as a worthy competitor to the country’s largest selling car, Maruti Alto and launched with much fanfare in October, Eon has so far received tepid response from the market. In its first three months, the car has sold less than 7,000 units per month.
