Vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is ramping up the production of its sports utility vehicle(SUV) XUV500 to 3,000 units from the next month and would touch 4,000 units by May-June 2012, said Pawan Goenka, president, (auto & farm equipment sector), M&M. The company has just increased its monthly production from 2,000 units to 2,500. The company will open XUV sales by January in five to seven cities. M&M started XUV sales in the top five cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai in October 2011.
M&M has sold out its output of four months and has suspended the bookings till January 2012 after receiving 8,000 orders for XUV500.
“Right now we don’t have plans to increase it beyond 4,000 units,” Goenka said. He spoke on the sidelines of the launch of a fleet of trucks in 25 tonne and 35 tonne segments by the company’s commercial vehicle joint-venture MNAVL (MNAVL).
Nalin Mehta, managing director, MNAVL, said it will launch three more products — a 49 tonne tractor trailer, 25 tonne tipper and 35 tonne truck in the first half of the next fiscal.
The company wants to double its dealerships to 100 in a year and increase its service touch points to 1,200 from the current 941. Currently, it sells 300 units in the medium and heavy vehicle segment and 1,000 units in the light vehicle segment, MNAVL looks to sell 50,000 units a year by 2014-15
