The new car will become just the third model in the company's current range and will aim to be the fastest and one of the most luxurious in its class.
Announcing the news on Wednesday, Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said: "This is a proud moment for everybody in Lamborghini. The introduction of a third model line endorses the stable and sustainable growth of the company and signifies for us the beginning of a new era."
The company expects to sell 3000 examples of the car, which will be based on the Urus concept, unvield in 2012 at the Beijing autoshow, and which will be built in the company's home town. "The new SUV will be made in Sant'Agata Bolognese, demonstrating our commitment to safeguarding the values of ‘Made in Italy' worldwide," said Winkelmann.
