At the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), opening in Detroit on January 18, Lexus will present its new RC F coupe in a world premiere. The model's 5L V8 engine boasts a total power of 450hp, a new record for the premium car brand.
A variation on the Lexus RC, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 2013, the RC F is even more aggressive, both inside and out. The design of the new model was developed to suit its more powerful engine and capacity for higher speeds, with wider wheels and tires, an active rear wing and a number of added carbon fiber parts.
The RC F borrows a number of design elements from the Lexus LFA supercar, including the rear wing which deploys at around 80km/h and retracts as speed drops below 40km/h. On the interior, Lexus has outfitted its new coupe with leather bucket seats, and a steering wheel with an innovative arrangement for the paddle shifters. The central gauge on the dashboard changes according to the driving mode selected.
"The form of each component is carefully designed to contribute to performance," explained Lexus RC F head engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi. "Unique air outlets in the hood and rear section of the front fenders contribute to optimum engine cooling and handling stability. They create an aggressive look that immediately conveys the expectation of a dynamic driving experience."
Slated to take place in Detroit on January 14, just before the opening of NAIAS, the official presentation of the Lexus RC F will be streamed live through Lexus's Facebook page.
