Utility vehicle major, Mahindra & Mahindra on Friday said a decision on the furture of its troubled joint venture with French carmaker Renault will be taken within the next 45 days. The 5-year-old joint venture produces and sells the entry-level sedan, Logan.
“We will be coming out with a statement within 30 to 45 days (on) how the Mahindra and Logan venture will continue in the future and what is the roadmap,” said Anand Mahindra, vice chairman, Mahindra and Mahindra.
Renault has also said in the past that it is talking to Mahindra about restructuring the joint venture. Logan has not been a success in the domestic market so far with sales far less than the installed capacity of 50,000 units per annum. Renault has recently announced to set up its own distribution network to sell the products which will be manufactured from the upcoming Chennai facility, being constructed with Japanese partner Nissan
On its two-wheeler portfolio, Mahindra said it will foray into the motorcycle segment with a full range of products by the end of this year.
"We do have a plan to get into the motorcycle segment. This will happen this year," he said. "We are going to be a full range player. We are simply not going to come out with one motorcycle product range."
