Mahindra is well-known as India's home-grown UV brand. It has achieved the five million (50 lakh) production milestone. This was achieved at Mahindra's Kandivali plant located in Mumbai, with the off-roader Thar being rolled out as the milestone-marking car.

Mahindra had reached the four million (40 lakh) vehicle production mark by 2012, and the last two years have seen a total production of one million (10 lakh) units. This milestone is the result of combined vehicle production from the company’s six manufacturing plants at Chakan, Nasik, Haridwar, Zaheerabad, Kandivali and its engine production unit in Igatpuri.
The momentous event saw the presence of Anand Mahindra, chairman, Mahindra Group, and Pawan Goenka, executive director, M&M, along with workers, union representatives and other officials.
