India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Friday started operations at the weld shop, its second factory in Manesar and produced 125 cars, even as resistance from a majority of the original workers at the plant remained firm.

"In the current situation, when the company is working with less manpower, start of weld operations at Manesar's new plant will help in ramping up production and overall volumes,” the firm said in a statement. "The new factory is a state-of-the-art plant where with the same manpower, the output is at least 30-40% higher than the other plant."

At present, there are 680 trained workers operating at the plant even as a majority of the original workforce stayed firm at not signing the bond of good conduct that Maruti has been insisting upon since August 29. Workers, however, alleged that the company's claims were humbug.

"We on behalf of Maruti Suzuki Employees Union (MSEU) want to reiterate that production is at a complete halt, and not even a single car has been produced since the 29th," said Shiv Kumar, general secretary, MSEU.
