Auto major Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) on Thursday said that the company’s decision to purchase land in Gujarat was meant towards building additional capacity and has no linkage with the recent industrial unrest faced by Company in Haryana.
According to a press statement issued by MSIL, the company’s plan to invest in Gujarat started much before the industrial unrest at Manesar. “The Board of Directors approved the purchase of land in Gujarat for future capacity requirements of the company last week. The logistics for sending finished cars to large domestic markets in western and southern India and close proximity of Mundra port for future exports played an important role in the decision,’’ the statement said.
The company has also clarified that its investment plans for Haryana remain on course. These include installation of the 2.5 lakh capacity assembly line in Manesar, a world class R&D Center and test course in Rohtak. The company has lined up a direct investment of over Rs 3,400 crores towards these facilities.
