Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said on Wednesday that it was operating at less than full capacity after a revision of its production target. A slowdown in the automotive sector has led to a host of auto makers like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland cut production but Maruti is the first major car maker to do so.
“We are readjusting our production and our Gurgaon plant is not running at full capacity,” said Mayank Pareek, executive officer, sales and marketing, Maruti Suzuki India. “In the beginning of the year we expected 10 per cent growth but till October our growth has only been 4-5 per cent. The slowdown has hit the A2 (entry level) segment most and we have had to align our production accordingly.”
