Maruti Suzuki rolled out its much awaited premium hatchback Baleno in Jaipur recently. The car, first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, made it to India first ahead of the festive season.

The hatchback looks refined with its “liquid flow” design styling, by which Maruti Suzuki looks to take Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy head on.

Baleno will be powered by a 1.2 litre K-series petrol engine and a 1.3 DDiS litre diesel, and with a host of other premium features, will have Apple CarPlay, a rare offering in this segment.

At Frankfurt, president of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Toshihiro Suzuki, said, “The Baleno stands out in terms of styling and utility as well as in terms of both driving and environmental performance. It is a car that will go beyond in all areas what people have come to expect in a compact car.”

Well, this car definitely is worth an option for loyals of Maruti Suzuki, who want more out of their Swift. Maruti thus looks to arrest the flow of buyers towards Hyundai elite i20 and Honda Jazz with this bigger uber offering.

So we can expect the car to be competitively priced between Rs 5.5 to 8 lakh for petrol and Rs 6 to 10 lakh for diesel models.

Suzuki engineers have got an entirely new platform for Baleno to offer style, utility, manoeuvrability, driving performance and fuel efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki has tried to resurrect its sedan Baleno badge with a hatchback (strangely), after its sedans SX4 and Kizashi failed to create an impact as big as its small cars. The new Ciaz is somewhere making a buzz.

Baleno is also crucial for Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious Nexa showrooms. The venture, which as of now banks only on S-Cross and Ciaz SHVS, will extend with this premium hot hatch to test the worthiness of the investment done on those 100-plus new showrooms.

Maruti Suzuki will also roll out a facelift of its popular multi-utility vehicle Ertiga next week, another big gamble during the festivals.

Maruti Suzuki has started accepting bookings for Baleno, which will be launched on October 26. Meanwhile, Europe will have to wait for it till the spring of 2016.
