Indian car market leader Maruti Suzuki will start the process of resuming production at Manesar by engaging with factory workers who were not involved in the violence on July 18. The factory is expected to resume operations on August 21.

Maruti is devising a three pronged strategy to avoid future violence and ensure the safety and security of employees. While it has asked for permanent police presence at the factory in the medium term, it will regularise all contract employees immediately while drawing up a list of tainted workers who would be asked to leave. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/8/15-08-12-biz-02.jpg

“Not all workers were at fault on July 18 so during the week, we will engage with those who are innocent to devise a strategy on how to get things back on track,” said SY Siddiqui, chief operating officer, MSIL. “We are also carrying out an internal inquiry to identify workers who were involved in any way. None of them will be taken back.”

Maruti will hold another meeting with the district administration and state level officials on Thursday or Friday to finalise a foolproof plan. A formal announcement is expected on Friday.
