With a devilish 666bhp on tap, aggressive styling and a set-up that's as track-focused as possible while remaining road-legal, the McLaren 675LT could well be the quintessential supercar.

McLaren Automotive has only been in business for four years yet in that time it has managed to go from a standstill to being neck and neck with the best that Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche have to offer. However, with its latest car, the 675LT, it may just have overtaken all of its serious competition.

The car's 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 675PS (hence its name) or 666bph and that power enables the almost completely carbon-fiber car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds and onto a top speed of 205mph (330km/h).

To put those figures into perspective, Ferrari's latest V8 supercar, the 488GTB, which will also be making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, offers 660bhp, a top speed of 208mph (334kph) and a 0-100km/h dash time of 3.0 seconds.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S has just 553bhp and a top speed of 197mph (317km/h) and its 0-100km/h time is 3.1 seconds; while the latest small Lamborghini, the Huracan offers 602bhp from its V10 engine a 202mph+ (325+km/h) top speed and 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds.

On paper, the latest McLaren annihilates its competition. But supercars are about so much more than performance. They're about heritage and about style.

In terms of heritage, like Ferrari or Porsche, McLaren has it in spades. One of the most successful Formula 1 teams in history and masters of the GT car race scene too, the 675LT has been so-called to evoke memories of the McLaren F1 Longtail that conquered all before it when it took to the track 20 years ago.

And in terms of looks, it does stand out without being overly aggressive. The exterior styling combining the best visual cues from the company's current flagship hypercar, the P1 as well as elements from the 650S which now sits below it in the model range.

The car will be officially unveiled in Geneva on March 3.
