Mercedes-Benz on Friday launched another edition of its E-Class sedan in India -- the E220d -- at Rs 57.14 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).

The E220d joins the fifth generation E-Class that the German automaker had launched on February 28 in two long-wheelbase variants -- E200 at Rs 56.15 lakh and E350d at Rs 69.47 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).

The E220d will have a 2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine mated to a 9G-tronic gearbox to churn out 187 bhp of max power and peak torque of 400 Nm.

So the three engine variants are

E350d3.0 litre V6 diesel255BHP (257PS) 620NmRs 69.47 lakh
E220d2.0 litre 4-cylinder diesel187 BHP (190 PS)400NmRs 57.14 lakh

The fifth-gen executive sedan is stretched by 185mm than the outgoing version, thus increasing its wheelbase by 205mm and making it really spacious. Mercedes-Benz offers reclining seats, adjustable from the chauffeur’s end, 64-shades of ambient lighting and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a 13-speaker Burmester music box. That topped with a panoramic sunroof takes this E-Class closer to the comforts of an S-Class.

On the safety front, the car comes with advanced safety features like park-assist, 360-degree aerial-view cameras, parking sensors and seven airbags.

Of the three variants, only the E350d version also comes with adaptive suspension system with variable damping that allows you to raise the vehicle by up to 25mm.

The other offerings in this segment are: The recently launched Jaguar XF at Rs 47.5 lakh, the BMW 5-series at Rs 50.50 lakh (to be updated on June 29), the Audi A6 at Rs 53.75 lakh, the new Volvo S90 at Rs 53.50 lakh and the latest entrant in the market, the Lexus ES300h at Rs 55.27 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
