German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz will on Tuesday update its executive sedan, the E-Class.
In its fifth generation, Mercedes-Benz India will bring only a long-wheelbase version to India this time, in two variants– E200 and E350d. Unlike the outgoing E-Class which had three power-trains coupled to a 7-speed automatic gearbox, the new executive Merc will have either a 2-litre petrol or a 3-litre diesel engine mated to a 9G-tronic gearbox.
|2.0 litre 4-cylinder petrol||182 BHP (183PS)||300Nm|
|3.0 litre V6 diesel||255BHP (257PS)||620Nm|
Mercedes has stretched this car’s length by 185mm which in turn has increased wheelbase by 205mm, making it a really spacious executive sedan. Mercedes-Benz has offered reclining seats, adjustable from the chauffeur’s end, 64-shades of ambient lighting and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a 13-speaker Burmester music box. That topped with a panoramic sunroof takes this E-Class closer to the comforts of an S-Class.
On the safety front, the car comes with advanced safety features like park-assist, 360-degree aerial-view cameras, parking sensors and seven airbags. The E350d version also comes with adaptive suspension system with variable damping that allows you to raise the vehicle by up to 25mm.
The other offerings in this segment are: The recently launched Jaguar XF at Rs 47.5 lakh, the BMW 5-series (which may get an update by the end of this year or early 2018) at Rs 50.50 lakh, the Audi A6 at Rs 53.75 lakh and the new Volvo S90 at Rs 53.50 lakh.
Since the outgoing E-Class comes at upwards of Rs 55 lakh, this swankier update is expected to start at Rs 60 lakh.
