Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave strong indications that he would welcome shifting of the small-car project to his state if the Tatas were interested.
"Centuries back, when the first Parsis arrived on the Gujarat coast, the then ruler sent them a glassful of milk indicating there was no space. The Parsis added sugar in the milk and sent it back, hinting that they would mingle with the locals. Today, I am ready to add sugar," Modi told reporters after addressing a joint press conference with senior BJP leader L K Advani.
Ever since the Nano car project of Tatas hit a roadblock with Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress vehemently opposing it, several chief ministers have shown willingness to welcome the Rs one Lakh-car project to their state.
"Ancestors of Tata still live in Gujarat," Modi claimed.
