At 26, he’s entitled to be awed by the presence of superstar Shah Rukh Khan as his co-brand ambassador, but Karun Chandhok likes to take everything in his stride. “I’m usually not overwhelmed by anything or anybody,” says presently India’s only name on the Formula 1 circuit. “But yes, it’s always a good feeling to be named in in the same breath with likes of SRK, Tiger Woods or Leonardo DiCaprio,” adds Chandhok who vroomed into the Capital recently as the new poster boy for Tag Heuer.
But that doesn’t mean this youngster doesn’t have his favourites. “I have loved Julia Roberts ever since I knew of Hollywood,” says the Chennai boy. And what about him acting in a movie? “Oh, no way. I will be awful,” he gives the trademark chuckle.
Chandhok loves Delhi for it’s infrastructure and “great places to eat”. “I haven’t been around extensively, but I have visited some great eateries around the city,” he says. And for racing, he loves to be at Monaco. “It’s an awesome place to be,” he says. And what about the glam-quotient, the parties and fun that is associated with racing. “Yes, drivers do let there hair down after the races,” says the Hispania Racing driver. “But I’m not really a party person,” he drowns our excitement.
Though he is practically living a life out of suitcase these days and loving every bit of the limelight, but Chandhok is candid enough to accept that he’s till unknown in India. “It will still take some time for a racer to be known,” he says.
