Tata Motors’ premium car unit Jaguar Land Rover’s sales were 39% up at 28,215 in June, helping its global sales report 6% growth in total vehicle sales at 94,055 units while the company’s car and heavy truck sales in the Indian market slumped.

Land Rover sales grew an impressive 49% at 24,386 units while Jaguar sales dropped 5% at 3,829 units.

Globally, Tata’s commercial vehicle sales — Tata, Tata Daewoo and Tata Hispano Carrocera range — grew 6% at 47,896 units while passenger car sales declined 21% at 17,944 units.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported quoting Financial Times that Tata Motors is in talks with Brazilian authorities about setting up a plant to assemble JLR’s Freelander four-by-fours.

Once assured that it can produce cars in sufficient volume, JLR will then look at setting up a plant in Brazil, which is on track to become the world’s third-biggest car market, it said.
