The Safari Storme was launched by Tata in 2012 and received extensive updates like a lighter chassis and a new engine amongst others. But it didn't make much of an impact as far as sales were concerned. This was primarily because it retained the basic styling cues of the original Safari. Also, it had limited standard features and the sitting arrangement was old school.
Now, Tata Motors is coming up with an updated Safari Storme that is expected to reach showrooms by mid-2015. The updated model is likely to get minor cosmetic updates on the outside — an updated fascia with a Land Rover-inspired honeycomb grille, an all-new bumper with a prominent chin, and updated fog lamp inserts.
The major changes are expected to be on the inside. The dashboard is likely to be all-new, and will get a slot for a large touchscreen unit. It will be the same one as the updated Tata Aria and also doubles up as the reversing camera display.
The seating arrangement will also be changed and the updated Safari won't get the opposite-facing twin jump-seats and instead get a front-facing third row. The top trims will come equipped with captain seats for the second row.
The refreshed Safari Storme will get a more powerful 148bhp Varicor motor that powers the Tata Aria. It is a re-tuned and free-revving version of the current engine with smoother power delivery.
