Prakash M Telang, a 37-year Tata veteran, is set to head the India operations of Tata Motors. The IIT, IIM graduate, who rose through the ranks from the plant level, will succeed Ravi Kant.
Telang, now executive director, commercial vehicles, will officially be designated managing director, India operations.
“We have been long-time colleagues. He joined at the Pune plant while I was here in Bombay,” said R Ramakrishnan, the soft-spoken chief financial officer of Tata Motors. Telang joined the Tata Administrative Services (TAS) cadre in 1972.
Ravi Kant, the current managing director, would continue as non-executive vice-chairman.
