The world's largest carmaker, Toyota, on Friday launched diesel variants of its maiden small car Liva and sedan Etios, which are expected to stir up sales in a market that is slowing down every month.
The Etios diesel is priced between Rs 6.44 lakh and Rs 7.87 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) while the compact car is priced between Rs 5.54 lakh and Rs 5.84 lakh.
The firm plans to sell 63,000 units of Etios in the country this year. It has already sold 33,000 units in the first 8 months.
"Etios has been received well by our customers in the petrol segment. We are now offering the diesel variant to cater to a wider customer choice," said Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India.
Both the diesel variants will be powered by a 1.4-litre engine and the company claims they offer mileage of 23.6 km per litre.
