Toyota Motor has recalled 3.8 million vehicles in the United States to address problems with floor mats. The problem mats, in a wide range of models, cause the gas pedal to stick, and could lead to a crash.
This is Toyota's largest US recall and the country’s sixth-largest recall overall. Recalled vehicles include the Camry, Avalon, Prius, Tacoma, Tundra, Lexus ES350 and Lexus IS250/IS350 of various years.
Toyota has warned owners to remove the driver’s side floor mats and not replace them. The recall was prompted by a high-speed crash in August involving a 2009 Lexus ES350 driven by a California Highway Patrol Officer, Mark Saylor. Saylor, 45, and three members of his family were killed in the accident.
