Four inter-state smugglers nabbed in Bathinda, Mansa

The Bathinda counter-intelligence has nabbed two inter-state smugglers and recovered 3.2 quintal of poppy husk that was allegedly brought from Rajasthan.

The operation was carried out by AIG, counter intelligence, Bikramjit Singh and the suspects were nabbed at Transport Nagar in Bathinda. The two have been identified as Harjinder Singh and Iqbal Singh, both residents of Moga. They had allegedly brought poppy husk from Kishangarh district of  Rajasthan at `500 per kg and were planning to sell it for `1,500 per kg in Punjab.

IGP, counter-intelligence, Bathinda, Jatindra Jain said, "The suspects had managed to cross all barriers in Rajasthan and Haryana but when they were nabbed in Bathinda. We are investigating the matter thoroughly as the duo had claimed of supplying drugs for a long time. This time, they had brought the poppy husk in a canter."

Meanwhile, in Mansa, the police have arrested two inter-state smugglers, identified as Ram Niwas and Udheypal, residents of Dabwali in Haryana, at a police barrier at Mansa Khurd village and recovered 5 kg opium from them.

During interrogation, the police claimed, the suspects had admitted to supplying opium brought from Haryana in different parts of Punjab a number of times.

Mansa SSP Narinder Bhargava said, "The suspects were trying to smuggle opium that was brought from Haryana in a jeep. They have been booked under Sections 18/61/85 of the NDPS Act."
