The police on Sunday booked three people for allegedly abducting and raping a girl of Samadh Bhai village under the jurisdiction of Baghapurana police station in the district.

Baldev Singh, station house officer, Baghapurana, said the 17-year-old girl, a student of Class 12, had complained to the senior superintendent of police that one Gurbhej Singh, a resident of her village, entered her house with two other people, who had their faces covered, and abducted her on the February 1 night.

"They took me to the nearby fields and sexually assaulted me. The three also threatened to kill me if I raised an alarm," the victim alleged in her complaint. "After they raped me, I became unconscious and they threw me outside my house. I came back to my senses after three hours and called my parents who took me inside the house," she claimed.

The SHO said after receiving the complaint, police took the victim to Dr Mathura Dass Civil Hospital at Moga for medical examination. Sources said doctors have sent sample to Chandigarh for further examination.

"We are waiting for the complete medical report. A case has been registered against Gurbhej Singh and two unidentified people under Sections 363, 366, 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code at Baghapurana police station," the police officer added.

The police said the victim had told higher authorities that she can identify two of the suspects if they are brought before her. No arrest has been made so far.

"We are investigating the matter and have constituted a special police team to nab the culprits," the SHO said.

The police have recorded statements of prominent villagers and farmers who were in the fields when the incident happened. "We hope to arrest all the accused soon," said the SHO.
