Local boy Himanshu Jindal (21) has accepted a Rs 93-lakh job offer from US-based information technology (IT) giant Google. Himanshu is a final-year computer science engineering student at Delhi Technical University (DTU). He will be paid $115,000 per annum and has been given 125 Google Stock Units (totalling around Rs 93 lakh annually).
Hailing from a district that has a poor literacy rate of just 53%, Himanshu opted for the non-medical stream in Class 12 and got private coaching. He secured the 22nd position in Punjab and 624th in India in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), which got him a seat in DTU in 2010.
Talking to HT on Thursday, he said, "I am thankful to my parents, DTU faculty and vice-chancellor Prof PB Sharma. My elder sisters Meenakshi and Isha motivated me. I am so glad that I will work in a renowned company. All this is possible because of my hard work and the blessings of my parents."

Himanshu's father Rajnath Jindal is a businessman, while his mother Santosh Rani is housewife. Rajnath told HT, "My son has been interested in computers right from his childhood. We barely managed to provide him coaching with our limited resources, but his hard work has paid off."
Himanshu did matriculation from Mai Nikko Devi Public School and Class 12 from Gandhi Senior Secondary School, both local institutions.
The university's placement process began on August 1 and already more than 40 companies have visited the campus and offered more than 260 jobs. The next highest pay package, Rs 70 lakh per annum, has been offered by EPIC, a US-based software company.
