To solve water-logging problem of Punjab farmers, the union government should sanction a relief package worth Rs 3,327 crore.
Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said this here while addressing a sangat darshan programme at Dhippanwali village of Fazilka district on Wednesday.
"We were preparing a comprehensive plan with the help of technical and irrigation professionals to permanently eliminate water-logging problem from Malwa region, which is causing heavy loss to farmers," Badal said.
He said chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had already submitted a detailed report to the Planning Commission, seeking funds to provide relief to farmers most affected with the problem.
Terming the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh a semifinal to the 2014 general elections, Badal said the electorate was waiting to teach a lesson to the Congress-led "most corrupt and inefficient" UPA government. He said results of the state elections would set the stage for the formation of the NDA government.
SAD (B) would win all four seats in the Delhi elections, as after thumping victory in Delhi Gurdwara management polls, the tempo was all set for the victory of the SAD-BJP combine in the assembly polls, he claimed.
"The Punjab government has already sanctioned Rs 10,000 crore to provide 100% sewerage and drinking water facilities in all 12,278 villages across the state," the deputy chief minister said, adding that in Fazilka district, so far, 20 villages had been selected for the provision at a cost of Rs 30 crore, which would be extended to 50 villages next year.
Meanwhile, he also held sangat darshan programmes at five villages of Jalalabad constituency - Paka, Buraj Hanumangarh, Isalamewala, Tahliwala Bodlan and Ghattianwali Jattan, where grants of `2.85 crore were distributed to 41 gram panchayats for various development works.
Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, MLA Gurtej Singh Ghubaya, former MLA Parkash Singh Bhatti, deputy commissioner Basant Garg and SSP Ashok Bath were also present on the occasion.
