Girl kidnapped off street to molest

On a charge of molesting a Class-7 girl (13) and injuring her brother (15), who had come to her rescue, a married man of 40 and his father are under arrest.


On Thursday at Dagru village of this district, the two men were charged with grabbing her off street in full public view and hitting her brother and his cousin with sticks. The girl was on her way home from school when dragged into a house. Her brother and his cousin, who were a little distance behind, heard her shrieks and confronted the men. The men tried to smash the boys' heads with sticks and ended up wounding the girl's brother seriously.

The crowd that gathered because of the commotion, later, helped the girl and the boys. The suspects fled, leaving the injured brother of the girl and his cousin, who were them moved to the Moga Civil Hospital. Assistant sub-inspector Malkeet Singh of the sadar police station has confirmed receiving a complaint from the victim's mother. The girl's father sells vegetables in villages nearby and the children study in a government school of the village.

"The school had let off girls first, and after some time, the boys after the evening shift," the victim's mother stated in her complaint. "My daughter was near home, when Sarwan Singh, a man from our village, passed a lewd remark at her. After that, he dragged my daughter into his house and tried to molest her."

When the girl cried for help, first a crowd had gathered outside the suspects' house. "When my son, Manpreet Singh, and his cousin, Kulwant Singh, tried to enter the house, Swaran's father, Jarnail Singh, attacked them with a wooden stick," said the complainant.

Station house officer concerned Ravi Sher Singh confirmed registeration of a case against Swaran Singh and his father, Jarnail Singh, under Sections 354 (criminal force to outrage modesty), 452 (trespass after preparation for wrongful restraint), 323 (causing injuries voluntarily) and 34 (acts done with common intent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
