Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa received support from the central leadership at the party rally on the occasion of Maghi Mela, here on Monday, when state affairs in-charge Shakeel Ahmed appealed to the public to ensure that the party was victorious in the Lok Sabha polls and make Bajwa an 'asardar sardar'.
"Modi says Manmohan Singh is sardar but is not asardar (effective). I believe that every sardar is asardar. You must ensure that Bajwa emerges as an asardar sardar after the general elections," said Shakeel.
He added the high command supported Bajwa's demand for a CBI probe into the Bhola drug haul case.
However, former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar failed to make it to the party rally on the occasion of Maghi Mela, here on Tuesday. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal made a brief appearance.
On his part, Bajwa showed that there was support for a CBI probe, when a large number of people signaled support by raising hands.
Bajwa thanked Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a special invitee to the rally, for extending the lease of agricultural land for Sikh farmers in Haryana by another three years.
Without naming anyone, Bajwa said:
"There are some black sheep in my party and these have joined hands with the Badal family over the drug haul case."
Party leaders Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Raja Amarinder Singh Warring, Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Muktsar Congress president Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Darshan Singh Brar and Dr Malti Thapar were present.
Brar asked high command to clear the air on Capt's letter
Senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar was in Muktsar. However, he preferred to address a press conference.
"I did not go the rally venue as Bajwa is facing serious allegations of links with drug mafia etc. The high command should express its opinion," said Brar.
He also questioned Captain Amarinder's opinion that no CBI probe was warranted in the case.

TV channel rubbished
Gidderbaha MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Bajwa alleged that a channel, in which the Badals are reported to have stake in, indulged in biased reporting. "We are never seen on this channel. Party leaders often on the channel need to be watchful. We suspect their loyalty," Warring said.
The channel had beamed live Captain Amarinder's press conference, on Monday, in which he had levelled serious allegations against Bajwa.
Sukhbir Mr 25%: Khaira
Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khera claimed that Pakistanis had dubbed their former President Asif Ali Zardari as Mr 10%, as he allegedly took 10% bribe on every business deal. "With this as a parallel, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal should be dubbed Mr 25%," he alleged.
Bajwa wants police uniform changed
Bajwa said that the first thing he would do, if he became the next chief minister of the state would be to change the uniform of the Punjab Police. "Khaki has become the color of those, who do not have any conscience."
