The police have stepped up night vigil after some incidents of crime were reported in the late evening hours in the past one week in Bathinda. In last four days, 31 police personnel have been suspended for negligence in performing their duty at night.
On three occasions within a week, some people broke glasses of cars at different places in Bathinda at night. The police had failed to identify the culprits despite having accessed the close-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of some areas.
The police had also cordoned off some prominent areas, including some link roads, where it is suspected that drug suppliers are active.
Officials in the police department revealed that the high-ups are annoyed over an incident that happened a few days ago when an alleged drug smuggler managed to escape despite deployment of 18 police personnel at the barricade.
The police department had suspended all these police officials for negligence in discharging their duty.
Speaking to HT, superintendent of police Amarjit Singh said, "As per directions of the senior superintendent of police, we are keeping a close vigil on working of the police personnel. All senior officials have started patrolling at night to keep tab on police force on duty. If any police official on night duty is found sleeping or negligent, he would be suspended."
