Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal's roadshow in support of its satirist-turned-politician candidate Bhagwant Mann in Barnala created a lot of chaos on Sunday. He reached here two hours behind the scheduled time of 1.30 pm. Braving the sweltering heat, people waited for him patiently. It appeared that AAP was trying valiantly to create an action replay of the crowd frenzy they whipped up during the 2011 and 2012 anti-corruption movement rallies.
Followed by a long trail of cavalcade, Arvind just came, stopped for a while and left. Instead of scheduled 20 minute-stoppage near ITI Chowk here, Arvind’s speech lasted barely 2-3 minutes. Most of the people could not even get a glimpse of Kejriwal despite a long wait. The road show appeared to be more of an appeasing tactic than a show of what the party stands for.
Addressing the gathering, Kejriwal said, “It is not Kejriwal who is powerful. If the high and mighty listen to me, it is because that I have been empowered by you, the people. In the same way, I urge you to empower Bhagwant Mann to take care of yourselves.”
