Parents blocked traffic on the Badal road here on Monday to oppose double increase in fee at Radcliffe School near Naruana village in this district.
The admission and tuition fee had been doubled, said the villagers. "First they lure parents with average fee and then double it. They cheated us," said Nirmal Singh Tittu, a parent.
Former member of panchyat Harbans Singh Naruana was part of the team that tried to meet the school principal. "He gave us appointment for today but failed to turn up," said Naruana. "We are left with no option but protest."
Even on Saturday, the parents had locked up the school after the principal had declined to meet them over the fee issue. "There is no fixed school fee," said Tittu. "Children in the same class pay different amount. Even the minimum charges are more than the fee in other schools."
On Monday, police reached at the scene to control the situation after heated arguments between the parents and the school authorities. No one from the school agreed to comment on the issue. Principal SK Jhana did not receive the repeated calls made to his mobile phone. Police gave the school authorities and the parents three days to sort out the matter.
