State rural games for girls off to a start

Getting a warm welcome the Punjab State Rural Games for Girls (Under 16) here in Bathinda city was inaugurated by Irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon on Sunday.


The Punjab Sports department and sports Authority of India is holding this event together under Panchayat Yuva Karida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) where 2200 participants are participating from across state.

Kicking off in the games held at different places in the city, Harmanjit Kaur of Tarn Taran clinched gold in 1500m, Navjot Kaur of Shaheed Bhagat Singh nagar and Rajwinder Kaur of Bathinda got silver and bronze medal respectively.

In 400m clocking Manjot Kaur of Tarn Taran bagged gold while Veerpal Kaur and Lovepreet Kaur both from Bathinda won silver and bronze.

In Long Jump Pardeep Kaur of Bathinda won gold with 4.54m long jump while Punnet Kaur of Moga and Navjot Kaur of Ludhiana bagged silver and bronze medals respectively.

Ravneet Kaur of Ludhiana bagged gold in Shot Put by throwing the iron ball 8.58m, Kanwarbir Kaur of Amritsar and Sarbjit Kaur of Tarn Taran got second and third positions with silver and bronze medals respectively.

In Hockey Amritsar remain outstanding with highest ranking and crushed Barnala with 6-1 and in Handball shaeed Bhagat Singh Nagar crushed Barnala 8-1while in Kabaddi preliminary rounds Hoshiarpur outplayed Amritsar with 35-9 ranking highest.

In Judo 40Kg weight category Rajwinder Kaur of Jalandhar won gold, Swati Shukla of Mansa got silver where as Sandeep Kaur Mansa and Lakhvir Kaur of Hoshiarpur were declared third jointly.
