Punjab police on Tuesday arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a former village head, and recovered 1.5 quintal poppy husk from their vehicle near Chuharchak village in the district.

Those arrested included former Sarpanch Lachhman Singh of Chuharchak village and Mander Singh also from the same village, police said.

The two accused were arrested from a police naka on the link road leading to Chuharchak village.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both the drug peddlers brought the consignment from Haryana and were on their way to Chuharkchak village to deliver it to their permanent customer, police said, adding that further investigations are on.
