Gursewak Singh, who claims to be the convener of the district unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) resigned from the post on Sunday alleging that MP Sadhu Singh's son has hijacked the party in the district.
"I am resigning from the office of the party in-charge in Faridkot and as personal assistant of the Faridkot MP because all the party system in Faridkot has been captured by MP's son Rajpal Singh and he is creating problems in the way of my functioning. Now Sadhu Singh is in full control of the son and he says that he would run the work of the MP himself which is harmful for the party as well," Gursewak Singh has claimed.
He also claimed that two other persons Amit Kamal Sharma and Nishant, office in-charge of the party and convener of the youth wing respectively, have also resigned along with him.
"We are resigning from the party because the people have voted for Sadhu Singh not his son and demand the intervention of the party high command, which is against nepotism," Gursewak Singh said.
When contacted, Rajpal Singh, son of Faridkot MP, said that Gursewak Singh is not the convener of the party and he has misled the people by claiming to be the in-charge of the district unit of the party.
"He had filled the form for his appointment as personal assistant keeping the MP in dark when he was admitted to the DMC, Ludhiana, due to an ailment. He has also his links with other political parties and he is working against the AAP."
"Gursewak Singh was not the official convener of the party and we have participated in all the agitations and extended support wherever needed," said Kultar Singh, the spokesman of the AAP.
He said that Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Punjab convener of the party, is also visiting Faridkot on Tuesday.
Sadhu Singh could not be contacted as his assistant Gursewak Preet said that the MP was taking bed rest as he has throat infection.
Jeevanjot Kaur, former convener of the party, has also alleged inaction by the Faridkot MP to take up the problems of the people.
"Faridkot MP failed to participate in the 'missing persons' agitation in the beginning and joined the PRTC employees' agitation too late. Under his leadership, the party workers were allegedly sidelined while the flatterers found their way in," Jeevanjot Kaur alleged.
"Jeevanjot Kaur has also been removed from the party office because of her anti-party work during the byelections and Sadhu Singh has kept himself at a distance from her due to it. Her allegations are baselesss," Rajpal Singh said.
