Ayushmann Khurrana, who has just wrapped up a film with Sonam Kapoor and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, says that he was caught between the Kapoors on the sets of Bewakoofiyan. “They shared fantastic camaraderie. I went doubly prepared to the sets because I got one or two takes with Chintu Sir (Rishi). And Sonam was like ‘Chintu uncle ek aur take, ek aur take.’ And Rishi Sir would say, ‘haan le le ek aur shot, tu Anil Kapoor ki beti hai,” shared the 29-year-old when he visited HT City with Sonam, to meet the winners of HT City’s Stars in the City contest.
Sonam pitched in, saying, “Yes, I was allowed whatever I wanted. He was very kind. There is a lot of love and care that comes from his side.”
There has been a lot of talk recently that Rishi and Sonam have patched up on the sets of the film, after sharing a cold vibe for several years. Apparently, Rishi was peeved with Sonam after Deepika Padukone and she cracked some jokes about Rishi’s son Ranbir on a TV chat show in 2010. However, Sonam says that there was never a cold vibe between them. “I wish it was that controversial, but it wasn’t like that at all. With Chintu uncle, I can get away with murder, I literally can get away with murder!” shared the 28-year-old, adding. “Ranbir and I are still friends, our families are very close, so be it holidays or festivals, we spend them together.”
Actors Sonam Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana were at their candid best when they visited our office on Monday, to interact with the lucky winners of HT City Stars in the City contest. In a fun session, moderated by HT City Editor Sonal Kalra, they talked about their upcoming film, Bewakoofiyaan, and showed us a few dance steps! Here are some excerpts:
Q: Why are Rishi Kapoor and Nupur Asthana (the supporting actor, and director) missing from your film’s promotions?
Sonam: Nupur is doing a lot of interviews. Also, before the release of the film, there is a lot of post production work where she is required. And as far as Rishi uncle goes, I think he’s shooting.
Ayushmann: Rishi sir is THE star! He is the busiest of all the stars we have right now.
Q: Ayushmann, your character gets sacked from the airline job he is in. Does the film have any connect with Kingfisher Airlines?
I think we shouldn’t take the name of any company, but yes, I’m seen working for an airline company. The story is familiar but not that of a particular person. It’s more about that if you’re suddenly jobless, and the person you want to marry is earning more than you, her father will have a problem with it.
Q: You’ve worked with many directors in the past. Is there any difference in how Nupur works?
Sonam: I don’t know if she’s different, but she’s as competent as any of the directors I’ve worked with. Also, like most women, she has high emotional quotient... may be, that’s why internationally, we see Indian women directors — like Meera Nair and Deepa Mehta — doing very well.
Ayushmann: Women are multitaskers, and they can handle everything right from lighting to the camera and so many other things.
Q: Sonam, you once said that you’d prefer marrying a guy from Delhi. What is it that you like about the city?
I like Delhi for its people, art and theatre scene, food... everything. But I don’t think I should bracket that I’ll get married to a person from Delhi. It doesn’t matter where he’s from as long as he loves me, and is a good person.
