Eleven people were killed and several others injured in four road accidents in 24 hours in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Monday.
Six people were killed and nine others injured when a jeep ferrying pilgrims from Chhindwara district to a Rangpanchami fair in Kareela area of Vidisha district collided with a mini-truck in Sultanganj area of Raisen district around 4 am on Monday, Sultanganj police station sub-inspector Kamlesh Rajput said.
Rajput added primary investigations suggested the accident occurred as the jeep driver fell asleep on the wheels.
The injured, including three women, have been admitted to Raisen district hospital and were stated to be critical, he said, adding the Raisen district administration has announced Rs 15,000 compensation for the dependents of each of the dead and Rs 7,500 assistance to the injured.
Truck falls into gorge in Shivpuri, 3 labourers killed
In another road accident, three labourers were killed when a truck, on which they were travelling to collect animal fodder, fell into a 25-ft gorge in Shivpuri district on Monday afternoon.
The accident happened around 1 pm and primary investigations by Shivpuri Dehat police revealed that the driver was drunk and have lost control over the vehicle. The dead were aged between 20 and 22 years.
Jeep overturns in Barwani, girl dies
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old girl, identified as Savita, was killed and four others were injured when a jeep they were travelling on overturned near Niwai tehsil in Barwani district on Sunday evening. All the passengers were returning from a fair in Kusmiya area of Barwani when the accident happened. Police said the jeep driver was speeding. All the injured have been admitted to a primary health centre near Niwai.
Labourer crushed to death in Gwalior
A 40-year-old labourer Hira Lal Shakya was crushed to death by a truck in Gol Pahariya area in Gwalior’s Janakganj area on Sunday. The driver of the truck fled from the spot after leaving the vehicle behind.
