Nine women and three children were killed and 28 people injured when a tractor-trolley in which they were travelling collided with a bus near a Madhya Pradesh village on Tuesday morning.
The mishap took place near Khoda village in Hoshangabad district, 70 km from Bhopal.
"The accident occurred when the trolley carrying pilgrims from Khoda village to the Salkanpur temple collided with a bus going to Gondia (in Maharashtra) at the Kesla road. The passengers of the bus were going from Bhopal to join a marriage function at Gondia," Hoshangabad District Collector GP Tiwari told IANS over phone.
"While 12 people including three children and nine women died on the spot, about 20 injured have been rushed to the Itarsi town hospital. Eight others seriously injured are being sent to Bhopal for treatment," Tiwari said.
The condition of some of the injured, including the bus driver, was described as critical. The accident reportedly occurred when the tractor driver was trying to take a turn.
