14-yr-old Dalit girl raped, set on fire in Panna

A 14-year-old Dalit girl sustained 80% burns and is in a critical condition after she was raped and set on fire in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district on Tuesday evening.

A 14-year-old Dalit girl sustained 80% burns and is in a critical condition after she was raped and set on fire in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place in Chandravan village that falls under the Simariya police station.

Police said the minor girl was raped by Pappu Lodhi at a desolate place near his house and when the girl resisted and threatened to expose him, the accused poured kerosene oil on her and set her aflame. On hearing the girl’s cries for help, the villagers rushed to save her and put out the fire.

The girl was rushed to Panna district hospital from where she was referred to Rewa Medical College. The police have arrested Lodhi, 35, who is a native of same village.

The case came to light after the minor was admitted at Rewa and hospital memo reached Simariya police station for inquiry.
