Three men were on Tuesday arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Bairasiya town near Bhopal. A hunt was on for the fourth accused, police said.

According to the Bairasiya Police, the victim, a resident of Sohaya village, had gone to meet her relatives in Bairaisiya on Monday afternoon.

Around 5pm, she went to a mobile shop owned by Amit Sahu, one of the accused who was known to her as they were from the same village.

Another accused, Anurag Jat, was also present.

Police said the duo asked her to join them on an outing and she agreed.

They took her to a remote area on a motorbike and allegedly took turns to rape her. Police said the victim’s ordeal did not end there as the duo then took her to Hanotiya locality where they were joined by the third accused and Amit’s brother-in-law Kashiram Sahu.

“Amit and Anurag then put the victim in Kashiram’s car and headed for the house of fourth accused Monu Chouhan in Bhopal. On the way, she was raped again by the three men. At Monu’s house, all four consumed alcohol and gang-raped the minor,” said Arvind Saxena, superintendent of police (North).

The girl’s parents lodged a complaint when she failed to reach home till late evening.

“The accused dropped the girl near her house on Tuesday morning at around 7. She narrated the entire incident to her parents and lodged a complaint against all four accused. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO (protection of children against sexual offences) Act.

Amit Sahu, Kashiram Sahu and Monu Chouhan were arrested while Anurag Jat is absconding,” said Saxena.

The case highlights the growing incidents of crime against women in the country despite stringent laws brought in after the infamous December 16 gang rape in Delhi.
