The carcass of two leopards that were found dead in Umaria district on Monday.

Two leopards, including one female, were found dead in Pathari forest area near village Ujan of Umaria district on Monday night.

While the male leopard was five years old, the female leopard was around four. The forest staff spotted the leopards lying dead next to a galvanised iron (GI) wire.

The forest officials suspect that the leopards were electrocuted as the poachers might have connected the GI wire with power lines to kill the wild animals.

“The teeth, skin and nails of both the leopards are intact,” said Umaria divisional forest officer ML Ladiya on Tuesday. “The autopsy of the leopards is being carried to find out the exact reason of their death,” he said. The village Ujan is close to the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
