Five persons including a minor girl and her father sustained injuries after being hit by a recklessly driven car at Chetak Bridge, MP Nagar, on Sunday morning.

The girl, Mantisha Ansari (14), who was riding pillion on her father's motorcycle, fell off from the bridge, about 20-feet high. She was on her way to a coaching centre's entrance test at MP Nagar. The three other injured were riding a bike and were on the way to Mata Mandir. The incident took place about 8.45am.

Locals rushed to the spot and called an ambulance, which took the injured to Kasturba Hospital, BHEL. Condition of the two -- Mantisha and another teenager Vaibhav Raj Kethal (16) -- is said to be serious.

According to police, Anil Bhatkal, a resident of Nehru Nagar, lost control of his car, resulting in the accident. He first hit the three youths and while attempting to speed away, he hit the girl and his father.

Doctors said the girl's jaws are badly fractured in the accident. She also suffered injuries in her head and other parts of body. Her father's right hand and legs are fractured.

On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and arrested the driver. The car has also been seized. Police said a case had been registered against Bhatkal under Section 279 of IPC and several Sections of Motor Vehicles Act.

City Superintendent of police (CSP) Govindpura, Shiv Dayal Singh, said, "We got the medical examination of the accused done as we suspected he was drunk at the time of accident."
