About 2,000 eunuchs from all over India gathered in Bhopal to celebrate 'Guru Ki Rasoi', a tradition to pay homage to their ancestors and gurus (mentors).

A three-day Akhil Bhartiya Kinnar Samaj Sammelan (All India Eunuch Meet) started on Wednesday at Mangalwara area of old city, known to house majority of eunuchs of Bhopal.

The main programme of the event is being held at Suraiyya Nayak’s residence in Mangalwara, which is grand enough to accommodate about tens of dozens of participants. Nayak is known as head of the eunuchs in this area and commands respect and authority among the community.

After initial rituals that were conducted at Nayak's home, a 'Kalash Yatra' was taken out which passed through busy streets of the old city. Wearing a gold crown and gold ornaments Nayak attracted attraction of all.

The procession had all eunuch members dancing and singing their way to a temple and later to a mausoleum. Eunuchs from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Agra, Jaipur and several other cities had gathered to attend the programme.

Former mayor of Sagar, Kamla Bua was also present and appreciated state government's efforts in engaging eunuchs. She said that decision of engaging eunuch’s in 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and 'School Chalo Abhiyan' by the state government is praiseworthy.
