Around 500 kilograms of explosives along with 2,000 detonators were seized from Tikamgarh on Tuesday. The explosives were enough to trigger another Petlawad incident that left at least 79 dead and hundreds injured in September last year.
The explosives were seized from a Bolero near the Orchha temples, police said. Two men in the car have been arrested, they said. The accused told police that he was transporting the explosives from an explosive magazine in Orchha to Jhansi.
“The car suddenly increased speed on seeing the police. The police chased the vehicle for a significant distance and stopped it. A total of 500 kilograms of explosives along with 2,000 detonators were found from the car,” a police official said.
Police have registered a case under Explosive Substances Act and further investigations are on to find the intention of transporting such a huge quantity of explosives, said Nimish Agrawal, superintendent of police (SP), Tikamgarh. Police are also trying to find out the seller and buyer of the explosives.
