The Garhakota police in Sagar on Saturday recovered dead body of the 9-year-old child who had been abducted two days ago.
The body was recovered from a well in village Satua of neighbouring Damoh district. The child Pankaj Kurmi was abducted on August 20 evening from near his residence.
Police had earlier arrested two youths, including a relative of the child on Friday, after they made a ransom call for Rs 4 lakh. The accused had thrown the boy into the well fearing police action.
Pankaj, son of Parshuram Kurmi, was abducted from Bhagat Singh Ward of Garhakota. Later the boy's father received a ransom call demanding Rs 4 lakh from an anonymous caller.
Police caught two youths from neighboring village Vijaypura - one Pheran Khangar and Rajkishore Kurmi who is relative of the abducted boy.
During police interrogation, the accused confessed that they had abducted Pankaj and demanded ransom. They said when they learnt about police action, they threw Pankaj into a well at village Sataua under Pathariya police station of Damoh district on August 20 night itself.
The well was filled with water and Pankaj probably drowned immediately, police surmise.
Garhakota station officer RN Tiwari said that case under section 302 and 201 IPC has been registered against Pheran and Rajkishore. Prima facie it appears the accused wanted ransom amount. Pankaj was the only child of his father Parshuram and that too from his fourth marriage. Police suspect that accused Rajkishore believed that after Pankaj's death Parshuram would make him heir of his property.
