The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad ( ABVP) staged demonstrations at several colleges and universities in the state including Barkatullah University in Bhopal to protest the decision of the state government to impose Section 144 on educational campuses at the the behest of governor Ram Naresh Yadav.

The ABVP has demanded immediate revocation of the order, failing which the organisation would undertake massive agitation.

At Barkatullah University, the state organising secretary of ABVP Vijay Athwal led a group of activists who raised slogans, held a demonstration and then submitted a memorandum to the university authorities demanding revocation of Section 144.

The governor, who is also chancellor of universities, is very keen to prevent politicisation of educational campuses and in this context had written to the state government to impose Section 144 in and around colleges and universities so that activities of politically-inclined groups including demonstrations could be curbed.

In view of the governor’s letter, the state department higher education has written to the district administrations to impose the preventive section in and around educational campuses.

The ABVP said the directive to impose Section 144 is a direct attack on the democratic rights of students to protest against the irregularities and corruption.

The organisation claimed that the governor is aggravated because some of the vice-chancellors are his relatives and close aides and the ABVP has been regularly bringing to light their irregularities and holding protests against them.

The organisation is also planning a massive agitation on July 16 on this issue.
