Threats of acid attacks and humiliation heaped upon by her seniors have pushed a girl student of pharmacy into committing suicide.
Anita Sharma, 18, was allegedly forced by her seniors, including four girls, to have a ‘love relationship’ with a college student, which she declined to do. Later they started harassing her.
The police said the deceased left a three-page suicide note in which she accused five seniors of harassing her in the name of ragging since she joined the college about a year ago.
Manish Raj Bhadauria, who is in charge of the local police station, said: “The deceased has named the five students of the college who harassed her. We will soon arrest all those five students.”
Sharma, a resident of Bhopal, was a second-year student of B Pharma at RKDF College. She hanged herself on Tuesday when no one was at home.
When her sister, Sarita, came home, she found Anita’s room locked from inside. When she did not open the door after repeated knocks, Sarita called neighbours, who broke the door and found Anita hanging from the ceiling.
In the suicide note she wrote: “Five seniors including four girls and a boy have been harassing me since I joined the college in 2012. I was thinking that they would stop this when I get into the second year. But they continued to harass me in the second year too. Now, I have been fed up with all these things, I am going from this world. God will surely punish them.”
Sarita said Anita had complained to the principal of the college against her seniors a few days earlier.
