Three separate instances of fathers allegedly raping their minor daughters were reported from across Madhya Pradesh over the past 24 hours, police said on Tuesday, including one case in which a 16-year-old girl said she had been sexually abused for 10 years before she broke her silence.

Police in Satna town arrested a 45-year-old man on Tuesday on charges of raping his 12-year-old daughter, who was at home with his younger sister while their mother and other siblings were away at work.

The man, who had returned from work drunk, sent one of his daughters to the market and raped the other on Monday.

He warned the victim against complaining against the rape but she told her mother when she came home. The two then lodged a complaint with the police.

Investigation officer Shobha Namdeo told HT over phone that the accused had confessed to the crime.

“The medical report has confirmed the rape. The girl’s condition is stable and she has been discharged from the hospital after treatment,” she added.

In the second incident, a 40 -year-old man was arrested in Gohad town in Bhind district on Monday for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter.

He had been allegedly raping his daughter almost daily for 10 years, said the police.

The victim told reporters that her mother had died when she was just two years old.

She said she lived with her maternal grandparents for about two years and later her father, an alcoholic, brought her home and shortly after started sexually abusing her.

“Whenever I objected, he used to threaten to kill me and my grandmother,” she said.

On Monday afternoon, the accused beat up the victim and her grandmother when they objected to his behaviour. Later, the victim informed her neighbours, who took her to Gohad police station.

The third incident of incest was reported from Tikamgarh district, where a 40-year-old man allegedly raped his daughter for over two-to-three months before an FIR was lodged against him on Tuesday.

The alleged 10-year-old victim in Tikamgarh also had lost her mother early in her childhood. An aunt and a local anganwadi worker helped her report the crime to the police.
