Suspended IAS officer Shashi Karnawat broke her six-day-long hunger strike on Sunday, claiming her guru in Ayodhya advised her to do so.
Karnawat had started the hunger strike, demanding her reinstatement. She ended her strike after Guru Ravidra Das offered her a glass of juice at her residence.
Karnawat said her guru Shri Janmeyjisharan Maharaj from Raisk Peethadheeshwar at Ayodhya called her in the morning and told her to end her hunger strike.
“My guru told me that no purpose would be served if I torture my body like this and die. He told me that I have to keep fighting. As I am initiated from Peetambara Peeth, Ravindra Das ji Maharaj from Peetambara Peeth also came and offered me a glass of juice to break my hunger strike,” she told HT.
On Saturday, she wept near the statue of BR Ambedkar at Board Office Crossing in MP Nagar, alleging discrimination against her by the state government.
Karnawat was suspended in 2013 after she was sentenced to five years in jail by the Mandla district court in a corruption case (zila panchayat printing scam of 1999-2000). At the time of suspension, she was a deputy secretary in the youth and sports welfare department.
