Children led by an NGO on Sunday staged a protest in front of the now defunct Union Carbide Factory demanding that all the victims of Bhopal Gas Tragedy should get compensation again.
"More than five lakh victims of the world's worst industrial disaster won't get the compensation announced by the Group of Ministers (GoM) this year after the public outrage following the verdict in the tragedy case," Bhopal Gas Peedit Sangarh Sahyog Samiti Convenor, Sadhana Karnik Pradhan told reporters at the protest site.
She said that the third generation of Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims is suffering from various diseases and this has been proved by researches but the GoM overlooked such children in its compensation package.
Pradhan claimed that around 5,90,000 people have been declared tragedy victims and got compensation earlier.
Now the GoM had announced that only around 46,000 people will be compensated, which is unfair, she added.
